Progress in Barcelona, our project with TRAM on

After a year of traveling around Barcelona with our MagicEye on board 41 trams, the TRAM Public Transport Business Group has monitored and reduced the fatigue levels of its drivers.

TRAM's concern began with the Croydon accident in the UK in 2016. In addition, a report commissioned by TFL and conducted in 2020 by Loughborough University, revealed that 17% - almost 1 in 5 - of bus drivers reported falling asleep at the wheel at least once in the last 12 months.

So, after conducting a study with a consultancy firm, TRAM Operations Director Agustín del Castillo concluded that "Datik and MagicEye came out on top of other options to improve the safe operation of our Tram network".

Now, after 12 months of operation, Agustin is satisfied: "Every driver fatigue alert received by our control room has been verified in real-time by Datik's 24/7 monitoring service team, so it is 100% reliable. With MagicEye we can monitor the progress of our driver training program. We can already see the positive effects at the fleet level and at the driver performance level". The project is now entering a second phase in which the system will classify drivers according to their fatigue and driving style, allowing TRAM to focus its training on those who need it most.

A venture that is progressing thanks to our MagicEye which brings together telematics, video analysis, artificial intelligence, and driver psychology to present a holistic approach to driver management aimed specifically at reducing the risk of driver fatigue-related incidents.
